The People's History of the United States, by Howard Zinn

a book review by

Unlike many historians, Zinn does not pretend to an objective viewpoint in his People's History of America. However he gets closer than anyone.

This book will dominate your thoughts for many months after completion. If you read this book you will never again be surprised when the USA drops bombs on defenseless people or cuts taxes on the rich. It's what they've been doing since the very beginning.

If you are otherwise interested in life but history and politics have always left you disillusioned, then this book can awaken you from your dogmatic slumbers. Only rarely does Zinn slip so far deeply into his Socialist mindset that you might think he was thrown into a vat of crude oil and sodomized by the Texaco Board of Directors as a child.

A perennial Top Read.
